Robert Howard Hughes Jr.

 

Born in 1905 in Texas, Howard Hughes became one of the most sucessful men in American History. Hughes is responsible for many great accomplishments most of which had to do with Aviation. He owned and operated Trans World Airlines which was started in 1930 and He directed and produced films. He was the engineer responsible for building many of the best airplanes of the time. He also built planes for the United States Government. His most notable creation was the Hercules which was the largest plane ever made of wood. The Hercules was built for the United States however it was never used because it was finished after World War II. Hughes also built helicopters. Howard Hughes was known for having a brilliant and creative mind, taking lots of prescription drugs, and having very stange behavior towards the end of his life. Hughes is responsible ofr many great things in the Aviation industry and in American history. Hughes died in 1976 of kidney failure. TWA was bought by American Airlines in 2001.
